Bestiary
These are the larger, dangerous beasts that the group has encountered so far.
Jungle Inhabitants
Beasts native to the Jungles of the Nuqanchik.
Tlakuatlaka ("Fish eat men")
Large walrus-like beasts. Instead of tusks, their heads are covered in tough scales that create a rasp-like surface.
They hunt primarily crustaceans and mussels, which they pry from the rocks with their head or crush in their powerful jaws.
If provoked they are incredibly dangerous, using the mass of their bodies and headbutts to crush their victims.
Estokatl ("Blood bug")
Dog-sized bugs. They have a keen sense of smell and are drawn to the blood if injured animals (including humans), which they then consume with their powerful pincers.
Macha Challwa ("Snake Fish")
Similar to crocodiles, but much slimmer. They swim between the roots of mangroves, ambushing large prey. Once they latch on with their strong jaws, they drag their victims below the surface to drown them.
Waqchuspi ("Jungle Horn")
Similar to Rhinos. They live in larger families that roam the jungle. While considered untamable, the tribes hunt them for their precious and thick leathery hide used to craft heavy armor.
Xitla Sayoli ("Rot Fly")
Large dog-sized flies. They live only a short time, searching for carrion to lay their eggs in. The hatched larvae first consume everything, even the bones, then each other until one is left to transform into a new large fly.
They are despised and considered a bad omen.
