2-Landeanflug

From the personal notes of Jasper Aarensen

Rescued some old friends of my uncle. They are both psions, also sent to Beta-19. For now we are on friendly terms, and Aren seems to trust them. A telepath and a psychokinetic, though they are both freelancer. Apparently he pulled some jobs with them a few years back - not sure if I want to know more and whether that's a plus or a minus.

Still: did the company hire a third team, or is this some third-party group? He seems a nice enough fellow, though she is a bit ... intense. Might just be the height and build, though.

Finally arrived on Beta-19. Worse than expected, and I expected bad things. Had to locate a landing pad via Psycholocation as there was no response on comms. The "landing pad" turned out to be an area of stamped sand crowded with a mob of angry colonists. Talked them down, in large parts due to the help of the telepath.

Situation is under control, but not much more. Several critical systems are damaged, comms among them. Colonists are no threat for the near time, they went back to their huts.

Findings:

  • Bailey and the telepath seem capable enough. My bodyguard and the psychokinetic yet have to be sufficiently challenged.
  • The SI of the Orgotek main base - called "Outpost Omega" - is giving contradictory orders week by week. This is what upset the colonists; though with comms down this has stopped for now.
  • We landed quite a ways away from Outpost Omega. There seem to be multiple colonies on the planet, with Outpost Omega the administrative center. Some specialize on mining, others - like this - on agriculture.
  • There was a different team coming by - most likely the first team they sent. They infected one of the local with a strange fungal disease, though everything seems to be fined now. Details pending further analysis by Bailey.
  • The report I was given is rubbish. It's SI-generated nonsense, though I was able to reverse-engineer the prompt they used. That might contain a grain of truth, though for now I don't have sufficient intel to use it.

Being lied to raises an intereristing question: Was that a single person overstepping, or is the company willing to send someone of my position into danger uninformed? I don't believe this is an attempt to get rid of me by the board, seems far too elaborate. What to make of this?
