10-Last Stand
- recap plan; research how to protect against the small ones
- we have pheromone stuff to distract the minions (it's gel we put on our bodies)
- Katta was on the Totem Party the night before, Sandman had his 100 birthday party (him 70, son 30); Loop was off partying somewhere
- Loop got a present from SK, a nice combat vehicle (4 rockets, one heavy machine gun)
- next morning the enemy is taking the initiative, swarms spreading into the city
- Katta organises Kiez defenses, then rallies the troops for the big offensives
- Sandman is ready for anything, joint in mouth
- we gather for the final assault, group, elite fighters and ritual mages
- Sandman and his mages rock the binding ritual, grabbing the queen and slowly bringing her over (it's quite difficult, the thing is HUGE)
- We move out as Sandman gives the signal; somehow, the net to catch people grows larger and larger, threatening to engulf us; we all notice in time
- Loop tries to organise people into getting out of the net range
- Blush gets the mages to safety ... inside an advertising pillar
- Katta takes position on a tree with a good view of the pillar
- Loop positions his drones in the ground to get advance notice of an approach - just in time to notice a large swarm of mantis minions approaching
- Sandman has summoned a hybrid double-large fire spirit to aid him; the spirit creates a wall of fire around Sandman to protect him and a few guards
- Loop starts mowing down insects with the heavy machine gun on his vehicle
- Katta organises two more machine guns and a flame thrower for the defense, plus Sun Wukong and a few strong melee fighters to deal with the few who get through
- Blush notices people lifting sewer grates and letting rats (led by shamans) into buildings to gather there; she goes to warn them off, grabs one of the shamans and sends them over to the side where the insects attack
- Roaches open fire upon us with infantry mortars from behind the advancing swarm of insects
- Blush, Katta and Hameln sneak to flank the insects and get at the Roaches
- thanks to the stealth gel we get past the insects and find the Roaches on a clearing; we attack without hesitating - Katta shoots one and wounds another, Blush jumps in and hits the wounded over the head with a mortar, knocking him down; Hameln distracts the crowd with a cloud of cat hair
- Blushs pheromone dispensers cause one of the roaches to blindly run away ... into the swarm of insects, where he is crushed
- the two remaining roaches miss Blush, then are cut down by the group
- we bring the mortars back home, with 4 grenades ammo
- Sandman notices sounds from behind him, someone approaching through the bushes - two huge attackers jump out of the thicket, insects over 3 meters in size
- same on the clearing, only Katta notices
- Sandman shoots a Stun Bolt at the attackers, glittering sand slowing them down briefly
- Katta tries to push Blush out of the way, "fall back!", starts retreating towards the victory column
- Katta calls Loop, "coming in hot!" - "understood, readying the rockets!"
- one of the attackers at the victory column jumps a mage, throwing him to the ground and spinning him into some sort of rope
- the other attacker jumps Sandman, the outer armour dissolving in the flames of the fire spirit; they start to regrow quickly; the thing tries to intimidate Sandman, but Sandman stays cool
- Blush tries to feed Bliss to one of the insects, but the inhaler misses
- Loop turns his wagon around, shooting and running over the insect attacking the mage - he manages to hit the insect and miss the mage, while the machine gun jams
- without Loops machine gun, the wave draws closer and closer - behind the wave, the queen closes in, protected in a strange energy pyramid (a mana barrier); the top node is protected by the insect shaman, while the lower corners are anchored at strange glowin dogs
- Sandman tries to put his attacker to sleep, it collapses in a cloud of weed smoke
- Sandman: the queen's barrier will protect against living things, spells and spirits
- Katta tries manages to shake the last pursuer while Hameln draws him to the column (and the heavy fire)
- Katta prepares to use a branch to *Kattapult" himself high into the air, onto the pyramid where the shaman is
- Loop shoots a rocket to help with the added pressure of the advancing wave, then manages to repair the HMG on the vehicle with cat's help
- Blush rams her fingers into the insects eyes - ten eyes, ten fingers; they slide in overcoming any resistance; the acid from inside the thing runs all over her, but between bone lacing and armour spell she doesn't take any damage
- the squad protecting the embattled mage lands a hit on his attacker, while the fire spirits miss
- hit badly in the shoulder, the mage still manages to hang on to his spell
- the incoming wave advances further and further
- Sandman accelerates the pyramid with the queen so she closes faster, then puts the second attacker to sleep, saving the mage
- Katta jumps up the pyramid, his troops open fire to support him - pushing hard, Katta hits him with the edelweiss extract, burning a large hole into his side and removing two of his arms
- the shaman looses concentration and the pyramid crumbles
- Katta slowly falls onto the queen, snatching one of her antenna, swinging through the air 50 metres above ground
- Loop crashes one of his edelweiss-filled drones into the encroaching insects, it forms a cloud that keeps melting down incoming insects
- Blush picks up some heavy duty weaponry and starts closing in on one of the dogs, but it's hard to get through the crowd and the flames don't seem to impress the dog, they are at least resistant
- Loop can keep the wave away from the mages, but can't do much about the wave itself
- the fire spirits can keep the attackers at bay for now, but it won't last much longer
- the shaman manages to close the pyramid once more as it rolls towards the victory column
- the three dogs at the ground edges of the pyramid shoot acid balls at nearby targets
- the queen tries to slash at Katta, but he just manages to evade (using edge); meanwhile the queen is distracted and pulled towards the column at an accelerated pace
- on Sandmans command, one of his stun bolts (9 successes) and a rocket from loop (8 successes) arc towards the shaman; they impact at the same time, the rocket pushing the tired shaman through the pyramid, destroying the upper half of the pyramid
- Katta barely manages to evade the leftovers of rocket and shaman, while the rocket burns a hole into the queen
- Katta throws the edelweiss super soaker at the hole in the queen, which hits, starts to boil and then explodes, killing all the insects under the queen in a huge acid ball; this means the queen can no longer use her acid attack
- the wave of attackers threatens the mages holding up the ritual
- Blush and the fire elemental help the mages, incinerating the insect attackers to relieve the pressure for this turn
- the insects hit the tank Loop is driving; he manages to free the tank from the pile of attackers and gain some distance - until one of the dogs bites into one of the rockets; the resulting explosion is felt throughout the battle, all that is left of the dog are random fragments of flesh and bone sporadically raining down on the battle field
- the queen cannot resist the pull to the victory column, but manages to slash around wildly, squashing some of the squad
- Katta is hit is well, he manages to angle the attack to pierce his armor so he hangs from the attacking arm, but the attack slashes deeply across his side
- Loops two remaining drones crash into the two remaining dogs, spilling their edelweiss extract over them, melting the flesh off their bones; one is cut down by the tank
- Sandmans concentrates on Katta, calming his pain and emotions to help him
- dangling from the queen's claw, Katta (with Sandmans help) calmly knocks an arrow and fires directly into the maw of the queen while he is being moved there
- the queen makes a sudden movement, causing the arrow to hit an eye instead of the mouth, the flash of the arrow's explosion blinding her temporarily
- fire runs down the queen into the ground, which opens up spewing fire - a new volcano in the middle of Berlin!
- still supported by Sandman, Katta fires the combined Fire + Air arrow into the queen, hitting once more and unleashing even more spirits to attack her, blowing holes into it from inside, the hot air pushing us away from the victory column
- Blush and Loop drive the tank towards the queen to get Katta out
- Sandman runs away slowly with his mages, keeping up the spell
- still under the effect of the spell, Katta fires the last arrow into the queen, then drops to the ground
- Loop launches the tank off a mountain of insect corpses, sailing through the air past Katta; Blush snatches Katta by a foot and draws him onto the tank, gesturing into the direction of Mandy and her webcam
- Loop lowers the tank windows to wave out of one of them
- the binding ritual keeps the queen pinned as the space station comes down on her
- a huge column of fire is all that can be seen later in the recordings, the queen lost somewhere in the center of carnage
- the tank does not have a scratch - the outer layer of hull is simply missing
- Hameln has survived, limping out of the forest a bit later
- the insects are harmless now, no longer controlled by the queen
- the wounds of those healed by Bernstein Brause open once more
- Sandman feels a small shock as his accidental insect connection shuts down
in the weeks following the epic showdown ...
... Blush takes care of Sals kids, bringing them back on the right wrong paths as thieves, not brutes; she still crashes on Mandys coach, who has become an internet celebrity
... Sandman, despite all the fame, quickly returns to his regular life; however, he opens a webshop run by Loop
... Loop is back where he started, no drones, but at least the webshop works now!
... Katta leaves the Kiez in the immediate aftermath, leaving the glory to others; he resumes his
wanderings through Berlin, still staying with the spirit of man and helping others find their way with his totem therapy
